A Brief History of GPS in Aviation

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Global Positioning System is used by an individual to determine that at which place he is located and it is also used to locate the other things as well by any individual. An aviation GPS system has gained so much popularity due to its accuracy and user friendly nature that in the field of aviation these kinds of devices are being used heavily by the companies. First of all the GPS system was tested with the help of a satellite system in 1978 and now after almost thirty years of its first experiment the GPS system has become the need of aviation field.

Aviation headsets that are used for the purpose of GPS are sold widely all over the world to the aviation companies. In United States of America, the GPS system is maintained and handled by the Defense of United States and for the convenience of their citizens they allowed every citizen to use this tracking system for free. Their citizens can use this facility without paying any cost as the whole cost is beard by the Government of United States of America. A new aviation system named as Garmin aviation GPS system is deigned having extra ordinary new features that are being used only in the air crafts so with the passage of time the GPS system is progressing and introducing extra ordinary features in every new model.

Using Planning Software

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Any construction process is going to be difficult if you don’t have the proper tools for the job. The important thing to remember is that there are a number of new tools that are constantly be developed. One of these new tools comes in the form of take off software. This little program can make all the difference when it comes to properly planning your next construction project.

The software is meant to help you properly measure the dimensions of the house. The data may be input through a digitizer. This tool just means tracing the lines of the housing plans properly with the scale defined. Once you input the information, it will restate the measurements. You may then draw out the rest of the plans and mark the desired changes and updates.

One particular use for it is in lumber take off. You can use the fine measurements of the software to properly plan and prepare for all the wooden frames that you will need in the project. If used properly, it will estimate the amount of material needed for the project to allow for a good estimate too. You can also print off a nice copy of the plans to distribute to the contractors to make everything that much easier.

These are just some of the reasons you should use the available software. It may be a bit of big change at first, but the benefits will quickly make up for the change.

The Role of Your Doors

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Your doors are incredibly important when it comes to the overall experience of your home. They are the first line of defense against the elements and the first thing that your guests will see. Remembering the proper role of these doors is vital to ensure that your home is properly equipped.

Exterior doors are prefect examples of these ideas. You will need a good door if you want to avoid heat loss and general damage from a bad door. This should really be good logic for anyone involved. It is also going to be one of the first things that people see when they visit your house though. This means you should at least pick one that goes with the house, and consider the addition of a decorative storm door for that extra bit of form of function.

Interior doors generally have a bit of a role reversal. These are just there for the sake of organization and privacy. This means that if you’re remodeling or building on a budget, the interior doors can probably get a low priority spot. A good door should do more than enough to offer privacy while also separating the room to converse heat or air conditioning. If you have the extra room in the budget, then you could easily choose some beautiful models that accentuate the beauty of your house. The important thing to remember is that you have a choice when it comes to decorative options. Don’t ever be cheap when it comes to quality though. A bad door just isn’t worth it.

Chinese astronaut completes spacewalk

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

or the first time a Chinese astronaut performed a spacewalk heralding a ‘great leap forward’ for the Communist nation in space technology which western experts say is close to rivalling US and Russia.

Mission commander Zhai Zhigang floated out of the orbital module of Shenzhou-7 this afternoon and walked in space for about 13 minutes before climbing back inside the module.

“Shenzhou-7 is now outside the spacecraft. I feel well. I am here greetings the Chinese people and people of the world,” Xinhua news agency quoted the 42-year old taikonaut as saying after the event which was beamed live to the country.

The successful spacewalk by the Chinese astronaut could pave the way for Beijing to attempt to build a space station as also a lunar landing.

The spacewalk was a high point of the Chinese space programme with the country having already launched three manned space missions. Chinese, after Russia and US, are the only third nation to achieve such a space success.

China launched its first manned mission Shenzhou-5 in 2003, followed by a two manned mission in 2005. During Zhai’s spacewalk his fellow astronaut Liu Boming also emerged up to the module’s hatch to hand over the Chinese flag to Zhai.

In the Shenzhou-7 mission, the Chinese tested indigenous space suits as well as those imported from Russia. Yesterday, the three-module capsule shifted from an oval orbit to a more stable circular orbit 343 kilometres above the earth.

Making Membership Cards

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Do you ever wonder how someone produces those nice membership cards that the high-class places issue. It may surprise you that these are actually fairly easy to get. You just need to contact a relevant printer to have the cards produced with the information that you specify. You could even have the magnetic strip on the back if you wanted to track anything.

This obviously won’t be that helpful to a number of people. Not everyone will need a plastic card for their business or organization. Standard checks should be more than enough for small organizations and group meetings, but you might still benefit from having a nice membership card available to make things easier. If nothing else. It will act as a little symbol of pride for people involved with the group. It should also symbolize your move into the big leagues as you take on a more professional look overall.

Plastic cards are great for a number of purposes. They can be used to identify your members or just act as a little status symbol. It’s just a professional way to spread your name through a relatively inexpensive process. Just remember to shop around to get the best deal possible from one of the reliable companies around.

Options for Learning New Technology

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Technology tends to advance in leaps and bounds. This is great for both the consumer and general commerce. Everyone benefits in the end. Unfortunately, it means that many people do not have the necessary expertise to properly use the system. Thankfully, there are a lot of options to stay up-to-date with the latest releases in a convenient format.

This is possible thanks to online computer training. The beauty of it is that you don’t have to make any major commitment for the most part. Online training can occur through a series of guided lessons or just through a do-it-yourself perspective. Either way should be a fairly effective way for you to learn more in your spare hours. Guided course work like any standard course. Just listen to the instructor and ask questions if you are ever confused.

The online computer training tutorials are one of the better options though. They can occur completely based off of your own schedule. When you have the time to train, you can just log on and take the next part of the tutorial. The instructions are just as good as having an instructor, and several programs even employ video lectures to get the point across. You’re getting the same lesson on your own terms.

CAR parliament adopts amnesty law

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

The parliament of the Central African Republic (CAR) on Monday adopted an amnesty law aimed at laying the foundations for a process of “inclusive political dialogue” between the government and rebels.

The legislation will protect both rebels and certain government officials from prosecution for crimes, official sources said.

Seventy-two out of the 104-member parliament voted to adopt the law, while one deputy abstained and 31 opposition members who refused to participate were counted as “absent.”

Peace talks here have hit numerous obstacles along the way and this amnesty law was the latest stumbling block, although the government and rebels resumed talks in Gabon in September.

On August 1, the rebel Popular Army for the Restoration of Democracy (APRD) withdrew from peace discussions, after opposing the draft amnesty legislation being discussed in parliament among other grievances.

“I want to see the text in detail before making a decision about it,” APRD leader Jean-Jacques Demafouth told AFP in a telephone interview from Paris, where he has been living in exile. He expressed misgivings about several parts of the legislation.

Demafouth heads both the APRD and the New Alliance for Progress (NAP) party, the creation of which Central African authorities approved in August.

One of the world’s poorest nations, the CAR is plagued by insecurity in its northern territories, where rebels and bandits have been battling government troops since President Francois Bozize’s election victory in 2005.

Indian-American scientist working to tackle ‘hot’ laptops

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Faster and greater processing speeds are producing hotter and hotter miniaturised computer models like the laptop.

Researchers at the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science are working to overcome the excess heat generating problem using nanoelectronics, expected to power the next generation of computers.

‘Laptops are very hot now, so hot that they are not ‘lap’ tops anymore,’ said Avik Ghosh, assistant professor at the University. ‘The prediction is that if we continue at our current pace of miniaturisation, these devices will be as hot as the sun in 10 to 20 years.’

Ghosh and Mircea Stan, also a professor in the department, are re-examining nothing less than the Second Law of Thermodynamics. The law states that, left to itself, heat will transfer from a hotter unit to a cooler one - in this case between electrical computer components - until both have roughly the same temperature, a state called ‘thermal equilibrium.’

The possibility of breaking the law will require Ghosh and Stan to solve a scientifically controversial - and theoretical - conundrum known as ‘Maxwell’s Demon.’

Introduced by Scottish physicist James Clerk Maxwell in 1871, the concept theorises that the energy flow from hot to cold could be disrupted if there were a way to control the transfer of energy between two units. Maxwell’s Demon would allow one component to take the heat while the other worked at a lower temperature.

This could be accomplished only if the degree of natural disorder, or entropy, were reduced. And that’s the ‘demon’ in Maxwell’s Demon. ‘Device engineering is typically based on operating near thermal equilibrium,’ Ghosh said. But, he added, nature has examples of biological cells that operate outside thermal equilibrium.

‘Chlorophyll, for example, can convert photons into energy in highly efficient ways that seem to violate traditional thermodynamic expectations,’ he said, according to a University of Virginia report filed by Zak Richards.

A closely related concept, Brownian ‘ratchets,’ will also be explored. This concept proposes that devices could be engineered to convert non-equilibrium electrical activity into directed motion, allowing energy to be harvested from a heat source.

If computers could be made with components that operate outside thermal equilibrium, it could mean better computer performance. Basically, your laptop wouldn’t burst into flames as it processes larger amounts of information at faster speeds.

Combining Ghosh’s command of physics with Stan’s expertise in electrical engineering, the two hope to bridge the concept of tackling Maxwell’s Demon and Brownian ratchets from theoretical physics to engineered technologies.

‘These theories have been looked at from a physics perspective for years, but not from the perspective of electrical engineering,’ Stan said. ‘So that’s where we are trying to break some ground.’
